full circle rainbows exist!

"Each rainbow you see is unique to you and centered on your eyes so all rainbows form a circle centered on a point marked by the shadow of your head (called the antisolar point). To see light from the top of a rainbow, you look up at an angle of 42 degrees. To see light from the sides of the arc, you look over 42 degrees. To see light from the bottom of the rainbow, you look down 42 degrees. Of course, if the ground is in the way, you won't see the bottom of the circular bow."

"Oh, a sleeping drunkard
Up in Central Park,
And a lion-hunter
In the jungle dark,
And a Chinese dentist,
And a British queen -
All fit together
In the same machine.
Nice, nice, very nice;
Nice, nice, very nice;
Nice, nice, very nice -
So many different people
In the same device."

pictures from the opening of my MFA thesis exhibition

My thesis show was held in an old ballroom at the Elk's Lodge in Hornell, NY. Everyone was given an 'Alicia mask' at the door, which made for an interesting social atmosphere. It felt more like a party than a gallery opening, and I couldn't have been happier...

(Most photos by Mike Fleming, some by Devin Henry. See more here.)

images of the work in my MFA thesis exhibition

The white neon equations were installed in the stairwell leading up the 3rd floor of the Elk's Lodge. The last equation (in red neon) and 3 large-scale sculptures were installed in the ballroom. More information on each individual piece can be found on my website

(I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I like to imagine the penny spins and spins and spins and never falls over)

crawling out from my hiding place

I've been avoiding anything remotely resembling a responsibility since my thesis show, including this blog, but I think I'm finally on my way back to feeling normal. I have been concerning myself with everything summer... traveling, laying in the grass, reading, repotting my plants, going for long walks, playing the ukulele, drawing in my sketchbook... Alfred feels completely deserted and totally magical.

I will post pictures of my show very soon. It was a huge success... I am now a master!
